Developing Refusal Skills (COD Lesson)
Abstaining from alcohol and drugs is challenging for many reasons. Temptation often comes from within a person and includes such things as a longing to relax or escape, physiological craving, and a desire to comfort oneself. Cues, urges, and temptations come from external sources and involve the circumstances and environments of life. Certain situations bring about an almost automatic urgency to use again. Walking into some particular environments may trigger intense cravings and tempt you to relapse. This lesson will help you get stronger, become more assertive, identify your specific vulnerabilities, and change your plan to use into your plan to refuse.
